‘Little-c’ Linguistic Creativity – an Ingredient to Spice up VL Activities
New words, 'the birth certificates of change', very often exemplify word formation creativity. Drawing attention to such 'little-c' creativity, e.g., the one exhibited by a newspaper journalist who comes up with some catchy coinages, and encouraging students to spot and explore them, can stimulate student curiosity and further reading, and make vocabulary building enjoyable.
Visnja Fara works as a senior lecturer of English at the Faculty of Organization and Informatics, University of Zagreb.

Create Games and Make Waves in Your Class. A Beginner’s Introduction
Children love to play games. So if we inject some game element into their learning activities, we are likely to captivate them and achieve the most coveted personal involvement. On the downside, not all games fit our teaching context. On the upside, trained teachers have the “street-smart” to convert a dull drill into an exciting contest.
Alexandros Vouyouklis has been teaching English for more than 25 years and is currently passionate about the way technology empowers students and teachers alike.

The Neuroscience of Creativity: Mapping the Maze
Where does creativity come from? Is it located at a hidden neural circuit deep in human brain? Is it just the synonym of serendipity, the Eureka phenomenon? Although creativity has been called the most important of all human resources, its neural basis is still unclear. Recent experiments attempt to identify its origins. In this presentation we will explore the studies and any available evidence which trace creativity neurobiologically. We will also explore how creativity happens in the brain and the conditions that foster it in a language learning classroom.
Dr Dimitris Maroulis holds an MA in Language Testing & Assessment, a Doctorate in Language Learning Strategies, and is currently studying Educational Neuroscience with Birkbeck University, London. He has been teaching English for 25 years.
